Decoding communication between tumors and their environment to find better therapies

March 2026

The Sohal Lab is now part of the Biodiscovery Institute (BDI) at UNT. BDI brings together researchers across disciplines to solve complex biological challenges, including cancer. The institute also provides professional development opportunities for graduate students and postdocs.

We are grateful to the BDI for welcoming us and look forward to collaborating with other BDI members to accelerate scientific discovery.

We’re excited to start 2026 with some great news!! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

Emmanuel Lamptey is joining the lab all the way from Ghana as the first Ph.D. student! โœˆ๏ธ

Looking forward to supporting him on his research journey and investing in his success! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

October 2025

Weโ€™re thrilled to welcome two highly motivated undergraduate students โ€“ Tanvi Verma and Diya Patel, as the very first members of the lab! ๐Ÿš€

Weโ€™re especially excited to have them contribute to both the lab setup and our research efforts as we get things rolling.

Honestlyโ€ฆ canโ€™t tell whoโ€™s more excited โ€” the students or the PI! ๐Ÿ˜„

September 2025

The Sohal Lab has been awarded an R03 grant from the National Cancer Institute to investigate how extracellular vesicles modulate the tumor immune microenvironment. This support empowers us to deepen our understanding of cellular communication in cancer and explore new avenues for therapeutic intervention.

We are grateful to the NCI for this opportunity and look forward to contributing meaningful insights to the cancer research community.

August 2025

Here we go! It is the start of the Sohal Lab! As a lab that studies cell-cell communication, one of our goals will be to effectively communicate our scientific findings to the scientific audience as well as to the general public. But our immediate goal will be to fill this photo with more amazing researchers! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Talons up! ๐Ÿฆ
